A photo of a Saucon Valley boy being helped with his broken scooter by two experienced mechanics–Mark Lewis and Chico Slaski–at Csencsits Auto in Hellertown has broken through on the social news website Reddit, where it’s currently among the top 10 posts trending on the main page’s “Hot” category.

This photo of two Hellertown mechanics helping a boy with his broken scooter has become a viral post on Reddit, a social news website known as the "front page of the Internet."

This photo of two Hellertown mechanics helping a boy with his broken scooter earlier this week has become a viral hit on Reddit, a social news website known as the “front page of the Internet.”

Reddit’s slogan is that it is “the front page of the Internet.” Its users submit and upvote or downvote posts they like or dislike in bulletin board format, with popular items often going on to become buzzed-about news stories.

The Hellertown photo had received nearly 4,000 upvotes and more than 2,100 comments by Redditers as of Friday morning, proving its ability to touch hearts and minds extends far beyond the borough’s borders.

“I think this is the sort of thing that got me into mechanics,” wrote one Reddit user, Astroghet.

And user Muklan commented, “I think that’s one of the quintessential milestones in becoming a man, standing around an engine, with a group of guys, trying to get it started, then that moment of unified celebration when it kicks over, and the blood, sweat, and frustration is all worth it.”

The photo was originally posted on Saucon Source’s Facebook page Monday by the boy’s mother, Celeste Behe, who is an occasional Saucon Source contributor.

That post was also extremely popular, receiving hundreds of likes and dozens of comments praising both Csencsits–a landmark garage with a seemingly sterling reputation–and its employees for taking time out of their busy day to help a child, in an era when simple acts of human kindness often seem increasingly rare.

As Behe explained in the description that accompanied her Saucon Source post:

My son’s electric scooter needed a repair, and since my family has always been very satisfied with Csencsits’ service on our car, my son was convinced that nobody but the Csencsits crew could fix his scooter. It was genuinely heartwarming to see two mechanics–who undoubtedly had a long list of car repairs to attend to–take a good 15-20 minutes out of their busy day to work on a kid’s scooter. And this, in 90 degree heat! Kudos to them for their helpfulness and kindness.

The Reddit post was created by the boy’s brother, who wrote in the accompanying description that the broken electric scooter was purchased at a yard sale.

Below is a sampling of the comments about the photo that have been posted on Saucon Source’s Facebook page:

And reader Sue Henn commented that “this type of post should go viral.” Which it has.
