On Saturday the Saucon Valley High School Soccer Alumni gathered in Hellertown for the tenth annual alumni showdown against the current high school teams.
In the morning Ladies game, 2010 graduate Lauren Fowler scored a goal for the alumni that kept the halftime deficit at 2-1. Seniors Paige Jones and Lauren Binn scored the first half goals for the students.
However, much to the surprise of very few under the hot and humid weather conditions, fatigue seemed to set in for the “old-timers” and the students finished with a 6-1 victory.
Even though the Alumni created a few solid chances in the second half, they were unable to find the back of the net. The students, however, were able to tally four second-half goals. Sophomore Maddie Guerreri and her pair of goals combined with scores from junior Sarah Savant and freshman Brooke Riefenstahl added to the student victory.
The afternoon men’s session utilized a different format. Alumni and students were mixed together and then divided into four teams. The teams then played a three-game tournament
A special thanks to the referees: Lou Moyer (father of SV alum Rachel) and Joe Long (father of SV alum Amanda).
