A new outdoor educational resource for Saucon Valley students is about to have its official unveiling.

The Saucon Valley Foundation for Educational Innovation (SVFEI) announced this month that it will hold a ribbon-cutting for the district’s three-acre-plus Environmental Education Center on Friday, Sept. 25, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The Environmental Education Center (EEC) is located on undeveloped land near Polk Valley Road, and is described in a news release as an “innovative, living outdoor classroom for all students.”

“The EEC will move the students from a traditional classroom experience to a natural ecosystem that will foster powerful new opportunities for learning,” it said. “Education professionals will be able to enable students to connect to the world around them through hands-on learning and foster excitement around science.”

SVFEI partnered with LandConcepts of Blue Bell, Pa., for the design and master plan.

Its development was funded by corporate and private donations received through the foundation.

To celebrate the center’s opening, SVFEI is also selling commemorative bricks that will be engraved and used to build a pathway in it.

Additional information about the Donate-a-Brick fundraiser and an order form can be found on the SVFEI website.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Environmental Education Center for habitat enhancement and upkeep, the site says.
