The Hellertown borough and Lower Saucon Township police departments along with the Saucon Valley School District are asking for the cooperation of parents in matters of safety related to the dropping off and picking up of students, according to a statement issued by the school district Wednesday.

“First, when entering the campus by way of Constitution Avenue and Walnut Street PLEASE do not block the crosswalks with your vehicle,” the statement to parents said. “The crossing guard cannot cross the students if there is a vehicle in the crosswalk.”

Parents who drive their children to or from a bus stop are also being asked to park a minimum of 100 feet from the bus stop with their vehicles.

“Drop off and allow the student to walk the last 100 feet in enough time to be ready to board the bus as soon as it pulls up,” the school district advised. “We are having cars pull right up to the stop and this makes it difficult for the buses to operate safely and causes traffic congestion.”
