Lower Saucon Township Police say a Riegelsville woman was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after she allegedly emptied various packages and concealed the contents in her purse or on her person in Giant Food Store, 1880 Leithsville Road, early Saturday.

In a news release, police said Abby Monteverde, 28, of the 200 block of Linden Lane, was followed and observed by a uniformed officer who was doing a walk-through of the store shortly before 2:30 a.m.

After Monteverde was seen holding an empty package, the officer followed her and saw her “go from aisle to aisle opening up items, concealing the items in her purse/person, and (discarding) the empty package on the shelf,” the release said.

Although all of the empty packages were unable to be located, police said the items Monteverde allegedly took that could be positively identified totaled $322.06.

According to the news release she was arraigned before District Judge John Capobianco and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $2,000 bail.
