Did you ever wonder what the week of preparation for a big football game includes? If so, you will be interested in what the Panthers are going through in practice for the biggest game in Saucon Valley football history. Friday night at 7 p.m. the Panthers will take on Imhotep Charter in the 2015 PIAA Championship semifinals. Thanks to Head Coach Matt Evancho, here is a look at their practice schedules.
Yesterday
- 2:30-3:00 – JV lift, Varsity study hall
- 3:35-3:45 – Offensive walk-through to install the Imhotep game plan
- 3:45-3:55 – Warm-up and stretch
- 3:55-4:15 – Defensive Combo/7-on-7 (The focus is on seeing and reacting to Imhotep’s run and pass plays.)
- 4:15-4:28 – Water break and Team Defense (This is an 11-on-11 period where the Panther scout team will show Imhotep’s run and pass plays full speed against the Panther starting defense.)
- 4:28-4:35 – Special Teams: Punt Team
- 4:35-4:55 – Offensive Combo/7-on-7 (The focus is on running select offensive runs and passes against Imhotep’s “4-4” defense.)
- 4:55-5:02 – Special Teams: Kickoff Return Team
- 5:02-5:20 – Water break and Team Offense (This is an 11-on-11 period where the Panthers run their offense full speed against the scout team’s interpretation of Imhotep’s defense.)
- 5:20-5:25 – Special Teams: Extra Point/Field Goal
- 5:25-5:30 – “Dessert:” Sprints (This is a conditioning/fitness period.)
- 5:30-5:35 – Team Stretch
- 5:35-5:40 – Post-practice position meetings

- 4:00-4:10 – Tackling Stations with 4 groups (emphasis on “open field” tackling)
- 4:10-4:20 – Defensive Groups (Defensive Line, linebackers, and defensive backs will breakout with their position coaches and refine their skills and techniques.)
- 4:20-4:38 – Water break and Team Defense (Includes “Red-Zone” defense)
- 4:38-4:45 – Special Teams: Punt Return Team
- 4:45-4:55 – Offensive Groups (Hogs, quarterbacks, running backs and receivers will break out with their position coaches and refine their skills and try to perfect technique.)
- 4:55-5:05 – Option Period (Running the option takes a lot of practice and the Panthers hit it here.)
- 5:05-5:25 – Water break and Team Offense (The last 5 minutes is dedicated to “Red Zone” offense.)
- 5:25-5:40 “Dessert,” Team Stretch and post-practice position meetings
The players and coaches look to be preparing this week just like it is any other week. With a championship on the horizon and the routine proven, Friday night these Panthers will be ready to UNLEASH THE BEAST!
