The bonus points came early, often and fast Thursday night at Bethlehem Catholic High School as the Saucon Valley Panthers walloped the North Schuylkill Spartans 62-6 in the District XI quarterfinals. The Panther pinners were Nick Rosengrant (106), Jack Hill (120), Nate Harka (152), Devin Fontanez (220) and Trey Polak (285). Saucon Valley’s five pins came in a total time of 2:48.
When the Panthers were not pinning the Spartans, they were racking up bonus points from Paul Miller (113), Jonah Zych (126), Angelo Mahaffey (138) and Jason Jones (145). Jones would tech-fall his opponent 16-1 in only 1:34 while Miller, Zych and Mahaffey registered major decisions against North Schuylkill.
The most intense match of the night came from Nate Kehs as he was successful gutting out an “Ultimate Tie Break” victory against North Schuylkill’s Joe Alexander. Kehs chose defense and was able to escape in the final overtime period to earn an exhausting 3-2 decision.
#1 Saucon Valley now butts heads again with #4 Northwestern Lehigh in Saturday’s 10:45 a.m. District XI semifinal at Freedom High School. Saucon beat Northwestern last week 40-24 in the Colonial League Championship. The other semifinal matchup is #2 Pen Argyl taking on #3 Lehighton. The winners will face off in the finals at 4:30 p.m. to try and lay claim to the 2016 PIAA District XI title.
Good luck Panthers! The Source is with you.
