Businesses Asked to ‘Light Up Hellertown’

It’s not Christmas yet, but it’s time to break out the lights again (as long as they’re white).christmas-215860_1280

The Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce is asking borough businesses to help light up the borough–and especially Main Street–with white lights, to help draw attention to the commercial corridor that is sometimes just a pass-through for motorists traveling to and from Interstate 78.

In a letter mailed to business owners last week, GLVCC Affiliated Chambers VP/Main Street Manager Jessica O’Donnell noted that the impetus for the campaign is the winding down of the Rt. 412 construction project that’s been impacting borough businesses for more than three years.

“The 412 construction has been a dark cloud above us for some time now,” the letter said. “It is now time to let the light in and showcase what we have to offer, and show that we survived 412! Let’s all come together to ‘Light Up Hellertown!'”

Businesses are being asked to use any kind of white lighting–such as light strings or electric candles–to tastefully enhance and draw attention to their properties “and bring brightness to the streets in the evenings.”

Anyone with questions about the voluntary initiative can contact O’Donnell at 610-573-4010 or je******@le*****************.org, or Borough Manager Cathy Hartranft at 610-838-7041 ext. 112 or c.*********@he***************.org.

The Rt. 412 project is currently scheduled to be completed in late 2016.
