M. Dorothy Mathers Brown, 72, Formerly of Lower Saucon (Obituary Brought to You by Heintzelman Funeral Home)

M. Dorothy Mathers Brown, 72, of Center Valley and formerly of Lower Saucon Township, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the former Mary R. Demuro and the late Robert K. Mathers. She was a graduate of West Moreland High School and East Stroudsburg University. She was a physical education teacher with the Hamburg School District. She was a Girl Scout leader in the Saucon Valley area, at both the Brownie and Cadette/Senior levels. She was an instructor in the Learn to Swim Program with the Lehigh Valley Red Cross and with the Saucon Valley program. She was also a first aid, CPR and lifeguard instructor with the Red Cross. She was an instructor/instructor-trainer for the Red Cross and worked at the Easton Chapter of the American Red Cross. Prior to that she was the aquatics director at the former YWCA in Easton. She later attended Lehigh-Carbon Community College and become a licensed certified occupational therapy assistant. She worked as assistant manager at Hess in Coopersburg and later at Wood Services, Lansdale, in the rehabilitation department until she retired. She was an avid Penn State football fan who also admired and enjoyed gardening and bird-watching and was a pet lover. Dorothy is survived by her mother: Mary R. Mathers; daughters: Tracy and Stephanie Brown; granddaughter: Campbell Anne; sisters, Nancy M. Holsberger and Peggy Sterner. The funeral was held Friday, April 8 at noon at the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, Pa. Interment was at Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville.
