The Saucon Valley School District issued a statement about a student who died unexpectedly Sunday, June 26, in which it said grief counselors will be available to speak with classmates of Elena Wenger Wednesday and Thursday.

The Saucon Valley School District issued a statement about a student who died unexpectedly on Sunday.

Elena M. Wenger died unexpectedly Sunday. The 11-year-old Lower Saucon Township resident was a Saucon Valley student.

Elena M. Wenger, 11, of Lower Saucon Township, had just completed fifth grade and was involved with Girl Scouts and the elementary school’s Panther Players, among other activities.

“(Our) community is saddened by the sudden loss of student Elena Wenger,” the district’s statement said. “Elena was a wonderful and active student…”

Counselors will be available at both the elementary and middle schools Wednesday and Thursday to meet with any grieving students, the district said.

Parents who have questions about helping their children cope with grief should call the elementary or middle school offices to be put in touch with a counselor.

On a Saucon Source Facebook post about the obituary for Elena Wenger there have already been dozens of comments posted expressing shock, grief and condolences for the family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for her will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 345 Elmwood Lane, Riegelsville, and will be followed by interment at Springtown Cemetery, Springfield Township.
