What’s on Tap for 2016 Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day?

For 15 years Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day has been a tradition in the Saucon Valley. It’s a day for the community to come together and celebrate the many unique businesses, organizations and people who make Saucon Valley such a special place.

For 15 years Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day has been a family-friendly tradition in the Saucon Valley. It’s a day for the community to come together and celebrate the many unique businesses, organizations and people who make Saucon Valley such a special place.

This year’s Community Day celebration will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Hellertown’s Dimmick Park. In addition to dozens of local business and nonprofit vendors, there will be kids’ activities, rides, a blood drive, games and food available throughout the day.

Several community members will also be honored for their charitable contributions in recent years, including Maria Makkas, owner of Salon Mia in Hellertown; Mark Walters, owner of Walters Excavating in Lower Saucon Township; and past community day volunteers.

The full schedule of events for the fun-filled day is as follows:

  • 9:50 a.m. – Girl Scouts’ Flag Ceremony, American Legion Riders and the singing of the National Anthem
  • 10 a.m. – Opening of the event
  • 10:30 a.m. – Lower Saucon Township Police Department K-9 unit demonstration
  • 11:15 a.m. – Lorrain Cawley Dedication Ceremony (Lorrain Cawley, who passed away in May, was the Hellertown borough public works director for many years)
  • 11:30 a.m. – Recognition of 2016 Community Day honorees
  • Noon – En Avant School of Dance performance
  • Noon to 5 p.m. – Car Show
  • 1:15 p.m. – Saucon Valley Relay for Life Chuck-a-Duck
  • 2:30 p.m. – Live performance by The Deadliners (local band)
  • 3:30 p.m. – Demonstration of karate arts by Saucon Valley Karate students
  • 4 p.m. – Saucon Valley High School Band performance
  • 4:30 p.m. – Grand prize drawing*
