As everybody in the region knows, the weather was oppressively hot and humid on Saturday. It was downright miserable. But the smiles and enthusiasm suppressed most of the complaints as the Saucon Valley girls soccer Alumni regained bragging rights by defeating the 2016 Panther JV-Varsity squad with a 6-2 score at yesterday’s matinee.
In a series dominated by the high school girls the past four years, it was the Alumni who came out on top despite the heat, humidity and youthful opposition.
It did not take long for the Alumni to get on the scoreboard. Early in the first half and only 15 seconds into her first shift, it was Coach Stevie Ochse (Class of ’98) who registered the first goal to give the Alumni a 1-0 advantage.
Ochse’s former players Cara Tavormina LaFlamme (Class of 2004), Kylie Paul (Class of 2016), Jess Yonney (Class of 2016), Maddie Heenan (Class of 2015) and Amanda Long (Class of 2012) all added goals for the Alumni’s winning effort.
The high school girls fought back with two second half goals. Sophomore Kimmie Polefka and senior Sarah Savant found net, but it was too little, too late. The Alumni reclaimed bragging rights with a 6-2 victory.
Despite the weather, it was again a great time for former Panthers to come home and reconnect with one another. In addition, it was an enjoyable opportunity for all to touch base and catch-up with the current team. The fun and success of Saturday’s event further proves that Ochse’s soccer program is in a good place.
Good luck to all Panthers, old and new. The Source is with you!
