Are you ready for some Panther football?

For those who do not quite have their game-face on, there is still about 48 hours to get in that Saucon Valley football frame of mind. Saucon’s season opener at Bangor will kick off Friday at 7 p.m.

To help make sure the Saucon squad is well-prepared and ready for a season of battle, seniors Steven Good, Brandon Holub, Nate Kehs, Kory Kemmerer and Ryan Meyers have been elected by their teammates to lead the Panthers through the rigors of the 2016 football season.

Saucon Valley Head Coach Phil Sams has absolutely no problem with his team’s selection. “These captains are hard workers. They stepped up in the weight room, speed camps and passing scrimmages.”

When asked what makes the newly elected players unique and special Sams stated, “They are throwback players in their work ethic. They all bring great value to the table. Good, Meyers and Holub love the weight room and hit it hard every day. Kehs brings the energy and fun. Kemmerer brings the edge. Kory plays angry, but keeps it under control at the same time.”

Sams then joked, “They are all lead-by-example-guys, except for Kehs. Kehs never stops talking.”

You get the impression Coach Sams could have proudly boasted about these guys all day long. Sams added, “These are guys that have grit. They are not afraid to get dirty and know what it takes to finish a job. They are foxhole guys. You want them next to you when there is a difficult goal to be accomplished.”

It is worth pointing out that Coach Sams and his staff asked his team to elect four captains. The team, however, was adamant that this year it has to be these five.

Five hard-nosed seniors with grit leading the way into the 2016 football season looks to be a great start for the Panthers. It will be tough to measure the influence of these young men, but their efforts will surely pay dividends to the entire Panther football nation.

Congratulations guys, we wish you and the rest of the Panthers nothing but the best.

Good luck, the Source is with you!
