Timothy “Tim” Wilt, 26, was swimming alone in a pool at his apartment complex and may have been trying to hold his breath to achieve a personal best under water when he failed to surface and was unable to be revived.

“Tim went into the pool at the apartments where he and (his sister) Amie lived, perhaps to try to beat his record time,” his father wrote. “For some reason which is not known to anyone, he didn’t come back up as he had always done before. He should have had a buddy with him, but he did not as Tim never lacked for confidence.”

“The doctors at the hospital who did everything possible to save him believe that for whatever reasons, he fell into unconsciousness and they know he quietly and painlessly slipped away from the world that so loved him,” he added. “Tim’s body will be donated to science. We know that’s what he would have wanted, and we’re sure he will help people grow after death, as he did here in life.”

Wilt was a graduate of West Chester University and had assisted his father with his business, according to the Facebook post. He had also studied at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, for a year.

In July 2017 he was planning to travel to Germany with his brother Dan to begin a year-long travel adventure in Europe; a trip he was looking forward to, his father said.

Among his hobbies and pursuits were languages, shooting pool, knife sharpening, bicycle riding, longboarding, SCUBA diving, skydiving, reading, sports, eating well, holding his breath under water and staying fit, the post indicated.

An obituary for Wilt is published on the Griffith-Cline Funeral Home website.
