The National Weather Service says the growing season in the Saucon Valley and much of eastern Pennsylvania is likely about to end due to a freeze.
The NWS has issued a freeze watch for Lehigh, Northampton and Upper Bucks counties that will be in effect from 2 to 9 a.m. Wednesday.
“Lows are forecast to range within several degrees of 30 early Wednesday morning over the countryside,” an accompanying statement said. “(The) coldest temperatures should occur between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, with frost or freezing temperatures possibly beginning as early as midnight in the normally colder sheltered valleys.”
“The upcoming seasonably cold frost or freeze event will probably end the growing season in parts of this area, especially near and north of Interstate 78 inclusive of the Lehigh Valley,” the statement continued. “If and when warnings are issued, protective action should be considered for sensitive outdoor plants.”
According to the forecast for this week, colder than normal temperatures are forecast through Thursday, when the high is only supposed to be 49.
There is a chance for rain mixed with sleet on Thursday morning before 10 a.m., according to the latest forecast.
