The male employees of a local business are planning to grow big bushy beards this month to help raise awareness of and money for cancer sufferers–and they’re inviting others to join them in the effort.
Heintzelman Funeral Home owner David Heintzelman is leading the local No Shave November charge, which is part of a growing national movement that began as a way to help focus attention on men’s health issues.
On Wednesday he issued a “call out” specifically to the men of the Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township police departments, Hellertown Borough and Lower Saucon Township council members, and local clergy, requesting that they get involved.
On Thursday, the Hellertown Police Department shared the link to their No Shave November team page, which as of Friday had already raised more than $850.
In his announcement Heintzelman said his business will match funds raised by the called-out participants up to a combined total of $5,000.
Participants won’t be able to shave their beards until after Nov. 30, however anyone can make a donation to the campaign on the Heintzelman team’s No Shave November webpage or the Hellertown Police’s page, where you can also register to be part of their teams.
According to the NSN website: “For over six years, participants around the globe have put down their razors and foregone their hair appointments to join the fight against cancer. The No-Shave November campaign has successfully raised over $3.5 million dollars to combat this disease. … No-Shave November’s mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures.”
