In a Nov. 4 Facebook post, The Center for Animal Health and Welfare said it was contacted by an eastern Pennsylvania rescue group, ā€œHair of the Dog,ā€ for help with rescuing him.

ā€œHair of the Dog was first contacted about an Akita roaming Springfield Township on Oct. 22 by a good Samaritan who had seen him twice in six weeks,ā€ the post says. ā€œThe rescue group volunteers kept their eyes and ears open and on Oct. 28, they received another report from another concerned citizen that she had seen him for several weeks (not daily) sleeping in the clearing behind her house. She had been trying to feed him.ā€

Vigor has been diagnosed with a serious skin disorder.

Volunteers began to monitor this area and eventually decided to entice Vigor with grilled hamburgers, which were placed directly inside a trap.

ā€œThe tired and hungry Akita ventured into the trap within one hour and was finally captured for his own safety,ā€ the Center reported.

Since his rescue, Vigor has been diagnosed with a severe skin disorder which has left him with balding in places, sores and redness of his skin. He is also very underweight and ā€œappears to have been on his own for quite some time,ā€ according to the Center.

The Center, a nonprofit 501c3 organization, is asking for donations to help cover the cost of the extensive care and treatments Vigor will need before he is well enough to be adopted.

ā€œVigor means ā€˜physical strength and good health’ and these are the goals and objectives of our staff for Vigor,ā€ the Center staff wrote.

To donate, visit the Center’s website and use the Paypal button or mail your donation to 1165 Island Park Road, Easton, PA 18042 (mark it as being for ā€œDella Fund – Vigorā€). Credit card payments are also accepted over the phone (receipts are provided).
