Saucon Valley senior Abe Lugo

Saucon Valley senior Abe Lugo is the nicest tough-guy you’d ever meet!

First of all let’s give a great big Saucon Source shout-out to long-time SV football stats man Robert Lofthouse.

Prior to this season, Bob had been a fixture in the Panther pressbox for a decade. Another shoutout belongs to Bob Kessler. Bob is the new stats guy for the Panthers. Without their efforts these honors would not be possible. Bob and Bob are simply awesome!

Let’s get to it. On this first day of honoring Panther football record holders, Saucon Source wants to recognize senior Abe Lugo.

Abe wore #43 and played outside linebacker and fullback for the Panthers. He stands 5’10”, 185. Offensively, he bulled his way forward with 33 carries for 193 yards this past season. That is an impressive average of 5.9 yards per carry. Abe also had 4 receptions totaling 59 yards for a 15 yard average. Defensively, Abe was credited with 23 tackles and 25 assists, including 7 tackles for loss.

It was his defensive efforts that led Abe Lugo into the Saucon Valley High School football record books. This past season his three sacks were good enough for 7th all-time quarterback sacks in a season.

Who’s #1 in QB sacks in a season? Kevin Branco is credited with 10 sacks in the 2003 season.

Abe said it: “My best SV football memory is when I had one of the game-sealing plays (sack!) in the win against Northwestern Lehigh during the 2015 season.”

Coach Sams said it: “Abe Lugo has come a long way considering last year he was not a starter and in 2016 he became a two-way starter. Abe was named 2nd team outside linebacker in the Colonial League this year. He is a great, hardworking young man!”

Congrats Abe, and best wishes in the future. The Source is with you!
