On the fifth day of highlighting Panther football record holders, Saucon Source wants to recognize senior Dino Zaharakis.

Playing linebacker for the Panthers, Dino wore #30. He stands 5’7″ and weighs 170. This past season Dino had 56 tackles and 43 assists. Seven-and-a-half of those tackles were behind the line of scrimmage for loss. Dino is also credited with getting his team two sacks during the 2016 season.

At 5’7″ Dino is a little on the small side, but he was big on toughness and desire. He had enough competitive spirit to earn his way into the Saucon Valley record books for multiple achievements. First, Dino’s 43 assisted tackles this season earns him 6th on that list. Second, Dino’s 46 career assists (2013-2016) lands him in the 10th spot there. Finally, his 56 solo tackles in 2016 is good for 4th all-time.

Who’s #1 for assisted tackles in a season? Christian Carvis (2015) gathered 82 assists.

Who’s #1 for assisted tackles in a career? Also Christian Carvis (2012-2015), who had 129 assists during his career.

Who’s #1 for solo tackles in a season? Ian Gimbar (2010) had 99 solo tackles.

Dino said it: “My best football memory is being part of a really close team. Playing football is the best thing I have done in high school because of the friendships that I have made.”

Coach Sams said it: “Dino Zaharakis was an example of never giving up on a player. Dino was a spotty player his first three years in the program and became the leading tackler on the best defense in the Colonial League his senior year. Not only is he an extremely coachable player, but he is also an outstanding young man!”

Congratulations, Dino, and best wishes in the future. The Source is with you!
