A Hellertown man is charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and third-degree felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure after police say he fired a bullet from an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle from a window in his home in the 700 block of Main Street through a child’s bedroom closet in the 700 block of Front Street late Saturday afternon, according to court records and a story published by WFMZ.com.

Richard Montalvo, 32, allegedly admitted to police while being questioned that he fired the gun, and his girlfriend reportedly told authorities that he was putting the gun together when he accidentally fired it, the article states.

Montalvo was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $50,000 bail following a preliminary arraignment before Judge Antonia Grifo, according to court records, which indicated that he was free on $5,000 cash bail as of Tuesday.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Elizabeth Romig-Gainer is scheduled for Jan. 27 at 9 a.m.
