When the 3/4 Travel boys walked off the court Sunday afternoon, the team was the winner of three straight and five out of six games. During the stretch, they played great defense and hit clutch shots. Their only loss during the stretch was to the undefeated Catasaqua team, which they stayed close to for most of the game. In a true team effort, contributions and points came from everyone. If Caleb Grim wasn’t dominating the boards, Andrew Gilbert was nailing long jump shots. When Phillip Taylor wasn’t closing down lanes and frustrating opposing offenses, Tanner Riefenstahl was keeping defenses on their heels and sometimes on the ground as they tried to keep up with him.
Up next for the Hoosiers are the playoffs, which begin next week.
The 3/4 Rec Boys Wildcats team continues to rise up the standings, beating the third places Canes 3 team on Saturday, 19-17. Joey Griffith pulled down 14 rebounds and scored 8 points. John Murphy played fierce defense, forcing four turnovers. Andrew Gilbert scored four points on fast breaks and Luke Stubblefield kept pace with four of his own.
The Buckeyes continued to hold on to second place, holding off a very tough Canes 2 team. Caleb Grim led the way with 10 points as they improved to 6-1 to keep their hopes of playing in the championship game alive.
The 5/6 Boys Rec team, the Trojans, faced off against the second place Canes 1 team, needing a win to put a hold on a spot in the Championship game. After falling behind by as much as eight points early in the game, the Trojans stormed back behind an incredible performance by Brandon Thompson, who would finish with 11 points. They held a lead well past the midway point of the second half before the Canes 1 regrouped and won 29-21. They now need the Titans to beat the Canes 1 team this weekend, and a win of their own to get to the Championship Game.
The Titans posted a great win themselves to keep in the hunt. Ryan Stubblefield led the team with 14 points as scrappy play by Andrew Banonis and Domenico Albanese saw them each get four steals. Point guard Colin Griffith set the tempo of the game and scored 10 as the Titans won 34-16 over the Canes 3.
On the girls side, the 5/6 Girls Travel Team Tigers got a huge win over Southern Lehigh to move into second place. Sarah Good led the girls with 14 points as they won 17-11.
