UPDATE (May 23, 2017): PennDOT has informed Lower Saucon Township that the contractor responsible for the repairs to the Bingen Road Bridge is going to push the start date for the project off until June 13, 2017. Saucon Valley residents who use Bingen Road as an east-west route when traveling between Hellertown and Rt. 378 in Lower Saucon Township should prepare for a lengthy detour lasting 60 days. The detour that will be in place while the bridge is closed includes Hickory Hill Road, Seidersville Road, Route 378 and Black River Road.
On June 13, PennDOT will close the Bingen Road bridge across the Black River–just north of Black River Road–for “priority maintenance repairs” that are expected to take 60 days to complete, according to township officials.
The bridge currently has a 17-ton weight restriction that limits truck traffic.
A full detour will be in place while the bridge is closed.
The detour route around the closure includes Hickory Hill Road, Seidersville Road, Rt. 378 and Black River Road.
The contractor performing the works will be J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen, Pa.
