Saucon Valley junior Zach Petiet scored his 100th career goal in a 16-4 victory over Liberty on April, 22. Since then, Petiet has hit his mark 27 more times. In his three years as a midfielder for the Panthers, Petiet has tallied a total of 127 goals and 45 assists. Those numbers are robust stats by anybody’s standards.
“Zach has excellent field vision,” Panther coach Matt Evancho said. “He puts himself in positions to be a threat offensively. His speed and quickness allow him to get by defenders. In addition to being a scoring threat, Zach does an outstanding job distributing the ball to the other offensive players.”
Coach Evancho had no shortage of compliments for Petiet. “Zach has been a starter since his freshmen year and is a team leader. He is like a coach on the field. His teammates look up to him.”
Also an outstanding running-back for the Panther football team, Petiet is looking to play lacrosse in college. Looking forward, it seems as if either Cabrini, Ursinus or Ithaca are the likely landing spots for Zach’s scoring services at the next level.
In the short term however, Petiet and the Panthers (11-5) are going to need all the scoring power they can concoct for their District XI semifinal showdown with the Southern Lehigh Spartans (12-6). The game is scheduled for Tuesday, 5 p.m. at Emmaus. The #2 seeded Spartans defeated the #3 Panthers twice this season.
The winner advances to the District XI Final to take on either Allentown Central Catholic #1 or Moravian Academy #4. The District XI Finals are slated for 5 p.m. Thursday at Lehigh University.
Good Luck Panthers, the Source is with you!
