Lower Saucon Township Council members Wednesday heard from a representative for a company that plans to build a 168,000 square-foot manufacturing facility at 1125 Easton Road, Bethlehem, just outside the township’s borders and along a road township councilwoman Donna Louder told him wasn’t designed for the amount of tractor-trailer traffic the facility could soon be generating, WFMZ Channel 69 News reported Thursday.
According to the story, a Little Town LLC representative said approximately 35 tractor-trailers will be entering and exiting the facility daily between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., which has sparked congestion concerns from both township and Hellertown borough officials.
Since the building site is in the city of Bethlehem, township officials have no say regarding whether the plans can move forward, although a highway occupancy permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is required.
Half of Easton Road–which is under development by Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII–is in the city of Bethlehem, and the other half is in Lower Saucon Township.
The Lower Saucon side of the road is primarily residential.
