A Lower Macungie Township man is facing charges after police say he allegedly escaped from custody after being arrested for DUI early on the morning of Sept. 9.

In a news release issued Monday, Lower Saucon Township police said Darius Matthew Johnson, 27, of the 1000 block of Pine Grove Circle, Wescosville, was arrested after he was stopped on Rt. 378 shortly after 2:30 a.m. for allegedly “crossing the yellow center line three times in a short distance.”

Police said that while being transported to the Bethlehem Township DUI Center, Johnson “urinated on himself in the back of the patrol car.”

“While at the DUI center waiting for processing the actor slipped off his handcuff and fled out the door,” police said, adding that he was subsequently captured about two blocks away and brought back to the DUI center, where he refused to give a blood sample.

Johnson will automatically lose his driver’s license for a year because of his refusal to give a blood sample, police said.

In addition to DUI, he has also been charged with Escape.
