A 34-year-old Hellertown man is charged with aggravated assault (a first-degree felony), simple assault (a second-degree misdemeanor) and summary harassment after borough police say he allegedly committed an assault early Oct. 28.

Daniel James Allen, of the 300 block of Henry Street, was arrested on the above charges following a police investigation that began when officers were summoned to St. Luke’s University Hospital, Bethlehem, for an assault report at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a news release issued Wednesday indicated.

According to court records, Allen was later committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $10,000 bail following a preliminary arraignment held before District Judge Patricia Broscius Saturday morning.

He has since been released after $1,000 cash bail was posted by a third party, the records indicate.

Allen’s next court date is Nov. 8, when he is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing before District Judge Elizabeth Romig-Gainer.
