Senior Angelo Mahaffey
On the eighth day of recognizing Panther football record holders, Saucon Source wants to highlight senior Angelo Mahaffey.
Angelo wore #44 and was a 2nd team All-League outside linebacker for the Panthers this past season. He was listed at 5’8″, 160 in the Saucon Valley program. Angelo’s 60 Season Tackle Assists are good for the 2nd spot in the Panther record books. He totals 72 Career Assisted Tackles which are good for 7th overall. Angelo’s toughness also tallied 46 Season Solo Tackles and that puts him in the 11th overall position.
Who’s #1 for assisted tackles in a season? Christian Carvis (2015) gathered 82 assists.
Who’s #1 for tackle assists in a career? Carvis (2012-2015) had 129 career assists.
Who’s #1 for solo tackles in a season? Ian Gimbar (2007-2010) had 99 solo tackles.
Angelo said it: “I would have to say my proudest football memory is going from sitting the bench, to starting on defense in a new position and being the team leader in tackles.”
Coach Phil Sams said it: “Angelo had to deal with a lot of adversity throughout his football career. During his sophomore season Angelo showed a lot of promise and was on many of the varsity special teams. Then, during his junior season he caught the injury-bug and did not play very much. He could have easily quit and focused just on wrestling. That being said, Angelo never quit! He kept fighting and fighting. During his senior season he started at outside linebacker, led the team in tackles and earned Second Team All-Colonial-League honors. He was also a major force on all special team units. Furthermore, Angelo was a great practice player who was a great example for the younger players. Angelo will surely be missed at Saucon Valley!”
