Saucon Valley School District has a new director of special education, after the school board Wednesday unanimously approved hiring Jaime Vlasaty to replace Dan Burkholder.
Burkholder resigned earlier this year, the board’s agenda stated.
It is not clear why Burkholder resigned, and school district/administrator personnel decisions are not subject to the state’s open records law.
Vlasaty was formerly the director of special education in the Easton Area School District.
According to a LehighValleyLive.com story, she earned $121,000 a year there and resigned that position at a meeting last September. She did not respond to an email request for comment about her resignation, the news website reported at the time.
Vlasaty will earn a salary of $110,000 a year at Saucon Valley, which will be prorated this year. She will also receive employment benefits per the current administrative agreement.
She will begin working at Saucon Valley on Aug. 1.
“It’s been a pleasure interacting with you over the last…six weeks,” school district superintendent Dr. Craig Butler said to Vlasaty at the meeting. “You received much support from all the folks that you interviewed with and I’m sure you’re going to do a great job. I think you’ll be a perfect fit, both professionally and personally.”
He added, “I’m very much looking forward to you joining our administrative team and the district office.”
“I’m just excited and elated to join the Saucon Valley team. I look forward to joining everyone…,” Vlasaty told the board. “Thank you very much.”
Tuesday’s brief board meeting can be watched online on YouTube, as can all the board meetings, which are live-streamed.
Board members Mark Sivak and Linda Leewright were absent from the meeting with prior notification.
The next Saucon Valley School Board meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Audion room at the high school, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown.
