For Coopersburg resident Theresa Flok moving her art and exercise class business Color Wheel Creations to 1053 Main Street in Hellertown has felt much like coming home.
That’s because her parents grew up here, she grew up as a member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus church in the borough and she now teaches art classes at St. Theresa School.
“I have a lot of friends who still live in this area,” said Flok, who will open the doors of Color Wheel Creations this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29-30, from noon to 4 p.m. for tours and class sign-ups. Anyone who registers for class will receive a free box of crayons.
The business officially opens with classes beginning on Monday, Oct. 1. A ribbon-cutting with the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce and refreshments plus the chance to win an art supply basket will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Flok holds degrees in art and education and opened Color Wheel Creations in 2006, first operating it in Salisbury Township near Bolete and then on Linden Street in Bethlehem.
A Palisades and Mansfield University graduate, she combines an educational focus and experience with her love of art and working with kids.
Over the years her clientele has varied based on where her business was located, but when it was off Seidersville Road she says she taught many students from Saucon Valley.
She is looking forward to teaching more Saucon Valley students once again, along with students who will be following here from Bethlehem.
Color Wheel Creations offers drawing and painting classes for kids and adults, drawing and sketch classes for kids, arts & crafts classes for kids, private art lessons for all ages, birthday parties, “Toddler & Me” classes for the tiniest budding artists and BYOB painting classes such as Adult Mug Painting for ages 21 and older.
The BYOB painting classes are always “a hit,” and can even be part of an alternative bridal shower or bachelorette party, Flok noted. They are usually taught on-site but can be held at a different location.
On-site BYOB painting classes are held Friday and Saturday nights and in the future Flok said she hopes to add theme nights to the mix, such as Couples Night and Singles Night.
One of the things that differentiates her classes from those offered by some other businesses is the ability for participants to work on different paintings, based on interest.
“You don’t all have to do the same thing,” she said. “I have it to the skill level that anyone can do (what they want to).”

Information about the barre and pilates exercise classes that will be offered starting in November can also be found on the website, which allows visitors to register online.
Flok said they will likely be offered in the morning and afternoon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
No matter what she is teaching, Flok says she enjoys seeing the satisfaction of her students in completing their projects. “I like a good result at the end,” she said.
