The day when you can simultaneously enjoy an extra hour of sleep and lament a sunset that is an hour earlier than it was the day before is fast approaching.

The annual change from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time will occur at 2 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 4, so you’ll want to manually turn any analog clocks you own back an hour before going to bed on Saturday. Computer and cell phone clocks will automatically change to the correct time.

Some things you may want to do when you change your clocks in order to “fall back” are:

  • Check/change the batteries in your smoke, carbon monoxide and/or natural gas detectors.
  • Change the passwords you use for things like social media accounts and online banking.
  • Check the expiration dates on food items in your pantry and refrigerator, so you can dispose of anything that is no longer consumable.
  • Check the expiration dates on any medications you have stored in your medicine cabinet.
