A Hellertown woman who allegedly caused a car accident at Main and W. Saucon streets shortly before 1 p.m. March 28 has been charged with two counts of DUI, borough police said Monday.

According to a police department news release, Cori Beth Sharkan, 38, “was acting inappropriate for the situation, causing police to perform field sobriety tests (on her).”

Police said Sharkan was then taken for a blood test, which allegedly determined that she was under the influence of amphetamines.

According to the news release Sharkan has been charged with both DUI-Controlled Substance (General Impairment) and DUI-Unprescribed Schedule II Controlled Substance.

Online county court records have not yet been updated to indicate when Sharkan’s preliminary hearing on those charges is scheduled to be held.

Police did not indicate whether anyone was injured as a result of the crash.
