There may be a few more dirty cars around Saucon Valley, since a popular Hellertown full-service car wash has ceased operation.
It’s not clear exactly when or why the automated Sure Shine Car Wash at 303-313 Main Street shut down, but residents have been commenting on and questioning the closure on social media in recent days, saying they miss the convenience of getting their cars washed there.
The half-acre property which includes the freestanding car wash building and two self-service bays–built in 1989–was recently for sale, however it is unclear if it has been sold.
Northampton County property records identify the owner as Sure Shine Car Wash Express LLC and list the last date of the property’s sale as March 2007.
Efforts by Saucon Source to contact the property owner or a representative have so far been unsuccessful.
On a sunny Saturday in mid-July the drive-thru car wash would normally be busy, but this Saturday it remained closed, with orange safety cones placed in the traffic lane that curves toward it around the back of the property.
The on-site office was locked and there were no obvious signs to indicate what may have happened posted on the door or elsewhere on the property.
Water pooled around the drains in the self-service bays indicated they had recently been used by customers, however at around 11:15 a.m. there were no customers on the premises.
The closure leaves one other car wash operating in the borough, and the nearest full-service car washes are on Rt. 378 in Lower Saucon Township.
