A Lower Saucon Township woman is facing a charge of recklessly endangering another person after police say she injected a friend with heroin and later did not summon aid when the friend said she couldn’t feel her legs.
In a post on the department’s Crimewatch page Thursday, township police said Destini Lee Czaplinski, 26, was arrested April 14 in connection with the alleged incident that happened at her home in the 2400 block of Black River Road in early October.
Police said Czaplinski and the other woman were together on the evening of Oct. 1, which was when Czaplinski allegedly purchased heroin and then injected it in her friend’s foot.
“Ms. Czaplinski stated she injected heroin in the female’s foot after she was asked to because the female had never injected heroin,” police said.
According to police, Czaplinski and the other woman then went to sleep.
At some point during the night, Czaplinski allegedly told police she “heard a loud bang” and then found her friend on the floor. It was at that point, according to police, that the friend said she couldn’t feel her legs.
“Ms. Czaplinski never phoned anyone for emergency assistance for the female victim,” police alleged.
According to police, it was not until approximately 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 that officers found the woman after responding to a report of a “female who was reported to be lying on the floor and had not moved all day.”
“When police arrived at the address they found a female that was in a bedroom and she was unable to move or stand on her own,” police said. “The female was transported by EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.”
“Police (officers) observed in plain view multiple used syringes, multiple empty wax packets commonly used for packaging heroin, one wax packet with heroin residue inside, two metal spoons with white residue and a small straw with white residue in the bedroom,” the Crimewatch post indicated.
In addition to the recklessly endangering another person charge–which is a second-degree misdemeanor–police said Czaplinski is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both of which are misdemeanors.
According to court records, a preliminary hearing in her case is scheduled to be held June 1 at 9:30 a.m. before District Judge Alan Mege.
