When everything that’s happened in 2020 is written into American history books, will their authors rely on Facebook posts–or Snapchats, or even TikToks–for accurate accounts of events, or will they study the news stories that documented the COVID-19 pandemic, the presidential election and protests over the death of George Floyd? My Voice Matters Local News Member Saucon Source

Realistically, they will do both. However, for unbiased context the historians will rely on the news sites like Saucon Source publish to help tell the story in a way that makes sense.

Returning to the present: If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that objective reporting is crucial not only to understanding our world in the present, but also to our democracy’s very survival. To put that statement in perspective, think back on your life during the COVID-19 shutdown in the spring. Many newspapers were unable to print. How did you find information about what was happening? If you’re like most Americans, you relied on online news, including independent local news published by sites like Saucon Source.

In spite of the role the important role the media has played this year in keeping Americans informed about life-and-death issues, many news outlets are now struggling. At Saucon Source we are fortunate to have local advertiser support–and we encourage all of our readers to shop small and shop locally. But we also need you to stand with us, which is why we’ve created a voluntary membership platform that allows you to make a donation in support of the work we do. Your contribution ensures our ability to continue bringing you the stories you value, and will also help bring additional coverage to areas that need it; areas like the Southern Lehigh School District and Upper Bucks County.

What do you get for being a supporter? We will be introducing text alerts for members in the coming months. Beyond that, we would like to hear about what you would like to receive in return for your support. For example, would you like branded merchandise or would you prefer exclusive content (or both)? You can always share feedback with us via email at jo**@sa**********.com.
