Organizers are busy preparing for the annual Hellertown Halloween Parade this Sunday. The parade will start at 2 p.m., and with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s in the forecast, a perfect day for Halloween fun is expected.

The 2024 parade theme is Fall Harvest, and prizes will be awarded to participants in a number of categories.

This year’s Parade Grand Marshal is Ronald “Ron” Smith, who for many years owned and operated Superior Auto Service in Hellertown. Well-known in the community, Ron is also the owner of several classic Dewey Fire Co. trucks that frequently make appearances at events such as the annual Light Up Night in Dimmick Park.

The Halloween parade route begins and ends at the Saucon Valley School District campus, where participants will line up in six different divisions (click here to view the division assignments). From there, the parade will march down Walnut Street to Main Street; Main to Water Street; Water to Rentzheimer Drive; Rentzheimer to Durham Street; Durham to Constitution Avenue; and back to the starting point. After the parade, there will be a community After Party held in Dimmick Park from 3 to 6 p.m., with a live performance by the band Triple Dog Dare; free-until-they’re-gone hot dogs, water and apple cider from Bechdolt’s Orchard; and food and beverage trucks.

Both the parade and the after party are funded largely through donations from local individuals and business sponsors, many of whom are named in posts thanking them on the Halloween Parade Facebook page.

The Halloween parade committee is chaired by Mayor David Heintzelman, who urged spectators to donate to the volunteers who will be collecting contributions toward next year’s parade on Sunday afternoon.

Residents and visitors should be aware that roads along the parade route will be closed to traffic by 1:30 p.m. and will remain closed until the parade is over. With barricades in place along the route, residents who live within the parade zone won’t be able to drive in or out of the area while the parade is in progress. Officials are also reminding everyone not to move the barricades that will be in place to help ensure everyone’s safety.

Cars parked along the parade route will have to be moved by Sunday morning or risk being towed, and anyone traveling through Hellertown Sunday should expect delays around the time of the parade due to detours.

Residents are also reminded that Trick-or-Treat in the borough of Hellertown is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. A community trunk or treat event will be held the same day from 5 to 7 p.m. in Dimmick Park.

Additional updates about the parade can be found on the Hellertown Halloween Parade Facebook page.
