Authorities say a man who worked for a mail delivery company allegedly stole more than $22,000 in checks from businesses throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.
According to the Hilltown Township Police Department, 45-year-old Edison Pena-Roman of Allentown was arrested earlier this month, following an investigation that began in February when a Hilltown Township business reported that a check was stolen from the mail and deposited into an unknown person’s bank account.
Police said Pena-Roman worked for a Bath transportation company that delivers mail to and from post offices, and in the course of his employment allegedly stole numerous business checks from the mail. According to police, he deposited the checks into his bank account using a mobile banking app or at an Allentown ATM.
Pena-Roman is accused of stealing $22,295.67 from multiple businesses in Bucks, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties.
An arrest warrant was issued for Pena-Roman in September and he was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police on Oct. 12 and held in the Lehigh County Prison. Hilltown Township Police said they took custody of him on Oct. 15.
Pena-Roman was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage, who set bail at 10 percent of $20,000 before remanding him to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
