Rail Trail Pedestrian Bridge Grand Opening Planned

The grand opening of a new pedestrian bridge that makes it easier for Saucon Rail Trail users to cross a busy Center Valley thoroughfare is planned for this Saturday, Jan. 18.

The opening of a new pedestrian bridge that makes it easier for Saucon Rail Trail users to cross a busy Center Valley thoroughfare is planned for this Saturday, Jan. 18.

The Preston Lane Pedestrian Bridge is adjacent to Upper Saucon Community Park, near DeSales University and Southern Lehigh Public Library. Jointly funded by Upper Saucon Township and the university, it in the planning stages for several years before construction began last summer.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, Upper Saucon Township, DeSales and rail trail officials is planned for 1 p.m.

Parking will be available at the park or the DeSales baseball field lot nearby.

The Saucon Rail Trail connects Hellertown, Lower Saucon Township, Upper Saucon Township and Coopersburg via a former SEPTA rail line that was converted to pedestrian use in 2011. In 2020, it was connected with the Upper Bucks Rail Trail, in Springfield and Richland townships. For more information, visit SauconRailTrail.org.
