Work Under Way to Reopen Closed Section of D&L Trail
Hikers and cyclists who haven’t visited the D&L towpath between Kintnersville and Upper Black Eddy since last fall should be aware that a section of the trail is currently closed for a restoration project.
The closed section is in Bridgeton Township, Bucks County, between Mulligan’s Bridge (mile marker 44.5) and mile marker 44.1, which is adjacent to the last house before the trail crosses High Falls Creek.
That’s where part of it was destroyed when the High Falls Creek culvert failed during tropical storm Ida in September 2021.
According to information on the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor website, work to rebuild the trail began in late December.
No timeline for completing the work was provided, but the announcement said the trail will remain closed until the project is completed and stressed that trail users should avoid the closed section rather than try to get around it.
The trailhead nearest to the closed section is at Ringing Rocks, along River Road about a mile west of Upper Black Eddy.
