Police Seek Tips After Copper Theft Causes Internet Outage
Pennsylvania State Police are asking for the public’s help after the theft of copper wiring caused an internet service outage in Williams Township.
Troopers said they were alerted to a theft just before noon on Sept. 17 in the area of Morgan Hill Road and Spring Valley Road.
An investigation found that 137 feet of bundled Verizon copper wiring had been stolen from a utility pole along Morgan Hill Road, according to state police.
The theft resulted in an internet service outage for the area.
The Northampton County incident comes as copper thefts have been rising across the region and country. The price of the metal has increased in recent months, compounded by a 50 percent federal tariff on copper imports.
According to NPR, AT&T reported last month that it has been victim to more than $40 million in copper thefts in 2025.Â
Anyone with information regarding the Williams Township theft is asked to contact troopers at the Belfast barracks at 610-759-6106. The incident number is PA 2025-1158693.
