Letter: After 87 Years, Saucon Valley Woman’s Club to Disband
Saucon Valley Woman’s Club will be disbanding as of Jan. 1, 2026. The club was founded in 1938 as the Hellertown Woman’s Club and became the Saucon Valley Woman’s Club in the early 2000s. For 87 years, the club has been instrumental in fostering community and educational projects.
We helped start the first kindergarten and our local library. We offered voter registration and candidate debates. We cared for the garden at the Heller-Wagner Grist Mill, planted trees and had a Peace Pole erected in Union Cemetery. We sponsored annual high school scholarships for academic and Vo-Tech students. We raised thousands of dollars through various fundraisers like our annual Holiday House Tour, Basket bingos and Boscov’s Community Days. These funds were donated to many local, state and national non-profit organizations, including the rebuilding of the Leithsville Fire Station, for the benefit of all.
Our club is now down to less than 12 members and we range in age from 71 to 92 years young! At our height our membership was over 75 ladies. We can no longer continue to do the dedicated work we all loved to participate in. We built many friendships, shared wonderful meals, had lots of laughter and made community connections that fulfilled our mission. Now it has come time to disband and hopefully others will find ways to continue providing support for others in our community. It has been a privilege and honor to be members of the Saucon Valley Woman’s Club.
