Local Bridge Out While New Span is Being Built

A bridge many local residents use to travel to and from the Easton area is closed for a replacement project that’s expected to last most of the summer.

The Fry’s Run bridge on Raubsville Road in Williams Township was closed starting Monday, with construction of the replacement span expected to take about four months, PennDOT officials said.

Raubsville Road traffic is being detoured between Durham Road and Buttermilk Road. The detour in place utilizes Raubsville Road, Hexenkopf Road and Morgan Hill Road.

Officials said the project involves replacing an 1896 masonry arch bridge with a new concrete arch culvert. Other work will include roadway approach reconstruction, milling and paving, guide rail installation, curb installation, drainage improvements, and signing and pavement marking.

The existing bridge is 24 feet long and 21 feet wide, while the new structure will be 30 feet long and 36 feet wide. According to a PennDOT news release, the section of Raubsville Road that includes the bridge has an average daily traffic volume of 1,639 vehicles.

Grace Industries Inc. of Bath is the general contractor on the $1.76 million project.

Bridge Out
The bridge over Fry’s Run on Raubsville Road in Williams Township is out until August. PennDOT officials say that’s when a replacement span is expected to be completed. Until then, motorists will have to use a detour along Morgan Hill, Hexenkopf and Raubsville roads.
