PHOTOS: ‘She Nailed It’ Raises Money for Affordable Housing in LV Area

For many area residents, the dream of owning their own home increasingly feels out of reach. The efforts of a local nonprofit are helping to narrow the affordability gap, however, and those efforts received a big boost at a Hellertown event Monday.

Habitat for Humanity Lehigh Valley’s annual ‘She Nailed It!’ all-female nail-hammering competition raises money for the organization’s Homeownership and Home Repair programs, which serve hardworking, low to moderate income local families in need of hand up. Since 1989, Habitat Lehigh Valley has built nearly 150 homes throughout Lehigh and Northampton counties for residents who are required to invest sweat equity into building their own futures, and the group’s work continues to put many more residents on the path to sustainable, affordable home ownership.

This year’s event featured more than 40 teams competing in fast-paced rounds on the Dimmick Park stage to see which could hammer a nail flush into a board the fastest and secure a coveted trophy. She Nailed It! also drew hundreds of spectators who enjoyed perusing various food and drink vendors, basket raffles, a 50/50 drawing, wine and spirit pulls and other activities.
