A Lower Saucon Township man has been charged with DUI after police say he allegedly drove an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on Riverside Drive in the Steel City section of the township while under the influence of alcohol.

In a news release issued Friday, police said an officer was on patrol in Steel City on the evening of Sept. 12 when he observed Gary Aschauer, 47, of the 2000 block of Riverside Drive operating the ATV in the area of 2072 Riverside Drive.

Police said the ATV was not registered, not inspected and had no insurance and was not supposed to be operated on the roadway.

When the officer conducted a traffic stop police said he “detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Gary,” and administered field sobriety tests, which Aschauer allegedly failed.

After being arrested, Aschauer was taken to the Bethlehem Township DUI Center, where police say a blood test determined that his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .12 percent, or .04 percent above the legal limit of .08 percent.
