Diver Noah Mauro Takes Sport to New Heights at Saucon

Saucon Valley High School has its first competitive diver in a number of years.

Tenth-grader Noah Mauro took up diving late last summer following a wrestling injury. He had wrestled for Wilson Area High School last year and Bethlehem Catholic prior to that.

When a torn labrum ended his contact sports career, Mauro took to diving.

“He is excelling quickly,” Noah’s mom, Marie, reported. “He qualified for districts and competed Saturday at Emmaus High. His goal was to set a new school record.”

Mauro scored a 353.65 in districts, which Marie said she wasn’t sure was a school record. The fact that Saucon Valley hasn’t had a competitive diver in decades means any records for the sport are likely quite old.

Saucon Valley Athletic Director Bob Frey confirmed that it was in fact a new school record, and shattered one that was more than 40 years old.

The previous record was held by Curt Bowers (224.54 pts) and set in 1977.

Noah will now compete at the PIAA State Championships at Bucknell University, March 14-17.

Noah is coached by Frank Donnolly, the head dive coach for Southern Lehigh and Emmaus, along with Coach Ed Kolosky at Saucon Valley.

Saucon’s swimmers will compete in districts this weekend at Parkland.
