The market opened for its 20th season this past Sunday. Freeman’s district includes the borough of Hellertown and other Northampton County communities.

Opening day of the Saucon Valley Farmers Market’s 20th season included a little rain, but the first several hours were mainly dry, business was brisk, and the overall mood among hundreds of market-goers, vendors and volunteers was optimistic.

The morning began with remarks by state Rep. Bob Freeman (D-136), who visited the market and presented its board with a certificate from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in recognition of the milestone. Freeman expressed his support for the market and its mission to increase access to local produce, and even brought along a vintage SVFM tote bag he owns.

After outgrowing its original location in a bank parking lot on Main Street in Hellertown the market relocated to Water Street Park, which it also outgrew. Today, it is held on a borough-owned field next to the Hellertown Area Library, across the street from Dimmick Park.

Hellertown Mayor David Heintzelman also stopped by to congratulate the market, which began with just a handful of vendors in a bank parking lot on Main Street in 2006. Today, the Saucon Valley Farmers Market is one of the largest in the area, with more than 30 vendors. Each week it hosts a live musical performance, and special events are held throughout the season.

On tap for this Sunday, May 11, is a celebration of all things ‘mom.’ The first 100 moms to stop the market information booth by will each receive a free cut flower, courtesy of the market and Moon Gate Farms.

The maternal theme will continue at the market’s Art Zone, which hosts weekly crafts for kids. The tent is sponsored by Steve Hollander, House & Land Real Estate, and the activity coordinator is Marlena Hollander, who this Sunday will help little ones make something special for mom.

The market’s new Art Zone tent was an immediate hit with families Sunday. It is one of several new offerings at the Saucon Valley Farmers Market in 2025.

Sunday’s musical guest will be Ashlyn Leary.

The market has also unveiled a new customer loyalty program to encourage local residents to shop more frequently. To participate, simply stop by the information booth and pick up a punch card. Market t-shirts and bags are also available for purchase at the booth.

The vendor lineup for Sunday, May 11 includes two new names: Hershberger Heritage Farm, which offers grass-fed beef, grass-fed lamb, non-GMO pork and pasture-raised chicken; and Tumble Creek Farm, which will sell microgreens and eggs. The other vendors scheduled to be at this Sunday’s market are Back Door Bakeshop, Beets The Meat, Bon Petit Marche, Breadfermented, Clean Green Growers, Dragonfly Hill Farm, Epic Acre Farm, Farmhouse Bakery, Fork’D Pierogies, Hilltop Haven Wine, Love Grown Grains, Macungie Mountain Herb Farm, Mad Catter Coffee, Mainly Mushrooms, Marie’s Soap, Moon Gate Farms, Popcorn Pit, Ridge Valley Farm, Saint Rocco’s Treats, Steel City Cuisine and Stehly’s Bakery.
