A 21-year-old man has succumbed to injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle accident in the 1800 block of Flint Hill Road in Upper Saucon Township Monday night.

Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio said the man was pronounced dead at 10:56 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill.

In a news release, Buglio said the man was the front-seat passenger in a car that hit a utility pole.

Upper Saucon Township Police yesterday said they are investigating the accident, which occurred around 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of Flint Hill Road and Forest Drive. In a news release, the department cited “significantly worn” tires as a possible contributing factor, and noted that tire marks 50- to 60-feet long were found on the road leading up to the point of impact.

Two other people who were hurt in the crash were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment Monday night.

Buglio said he is withholding the cause of the man’s death pending further investigation by his office. The accident is also under investigation by Upper Saucon Township Police and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office.

Buglio said that while the deceased man has been identified and his next of kin notified, he is withholding his name “due to the sudden and unexpected nature of this tragedy…to allow the family the opportunity to mourn privately.”
