State Police Planning DUI Checkpoint for Later This Month

Summer is a time of year when many people consume alcohol at outdoor gatherings and recreational areas, and state police want the motoring public to know they will be monitoring roads for signs of impaired drivers as the summer season kicks into high gear.

Officials with Troop M, Dublin barracks, announced Monday that the barracks is planning a DUI checkpoint for later this month. Specifically, they said it will be held somewhere within Bucks County between Friday, July 24 and Sunday, July 26.

During a DUI checkpoint, troopers systematically stop vehicles at a pre-selected location to briefly observe them for behaviors normally associated with drug and/or alcohol impairment.

Checkpoints are regularly used by state police as part of their DUI enforcement efforts.

According to PennDOT statistics, there has been a steady decline in the number of alcohol-related crashes and fatal alcohol-related accidents in Bucks County over the past five years.

In 2021, there were 190 alcohol-related crashes and 11 alcohol-related fatal accidents in Bucks County. In 2025, those statistics had dropped to 165 and 7, respectively. The decline in alcohol-related crashes represents a 13 percent decrease and the decline in fatalities represents a 36 percent drop.

Bucks County recorded 4,346 reportable crashes in 2025, meaning alcohol-related crashes accounted for about 3.8 percent of all crashes county-wide.

Statewide, there were 258 fatal accidents involving impaired drivers in 2025, which is the lowest number of such accidents on record according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation statistics.
