An Upper Saucon Township man has been charged with DUI and fleeing and eluding, after Lower Saucon Township Police say he led officers on a 3-mile pursuit down Rt. 378 early on the morning of Dec. 16.

In a news release issued Sunday, police said Scott Howser, of the 5800 block of Mountain Laurel Drive, was followed after police allegedly timed him traveling at 80 mph in a 45 mph speed zone on Rt. 378.

After police attempted to stop the southbound Howser, they said he initially “refused” and wove in and out of his lane–nearly striking the end of a guide rail–before finally stopping in Lehigh County shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Police said Howser handed approaching officers the owner’s manual for the car he was driving, which was a company-owned vehicle.

Officers detected the “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” upon making contact with Howser, police said, and he was arrested after he allegedly “showed further signs of intoxication during field sobriety tests.”

According to police, Howser’s blood alcohol concentration was determined to be .20 percent.

The legal limit for most PA motorists is .08 percent.
