Several Inches of Snow Possible Friday

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Lehigh and Northampton counties for three to six inches of snow between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday. A snowfall forecast map tweeted early Thursday by meteorologist Gary Szatkowski–who works for the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey–shows the Lehigh Valley in a swath where four to six inches of snow are forecast to accumulate.

According to the calendar, Friday’s the first day of spring. But somebody apparently forgot to tell Mother Nature.

Snow is in the forecast for the Lehigh Valley, and several inches could fall, according to the National Weather Service.

In a hazardous weather outlook issued Wednesday, the NWS said that the amount of accumulation will depend on when the snow falls as well as the intensity of the precipitation.

ā€œIf the snow intensity is light enough during the daylight hours, that may allow for more melting on the roads,ā€ the statement said. ā€œThis and also if some rain mixes in for some areas can lower the actual accumulations.ā€

Friday’s high temperature is forecast to be 36, and Friday night’s low is forecast to be 29.

The Lehigh Valley Weather Authority says a ā€œmessy commuteā€ is possible Friday morning, with snow expected to arrive between 6 and 8 a.m.

ā€œTwo to 4 inchesĀ is a good call right now,ā€ a Wednesday evening post on the LVWA Facebook page said. ā€œWhile most of that accumulation will be confined to the colder surfaces, the roads may end up seeing some of that.ā€
