Est. Read Time: < 1 min

Correction: Initial eyewitness reports indicated that the victim of the accident was a man, but Hellertown Police Chief Robert Shupp confirmed that it was a woman. Shupp said Monday evening that the woman was attempting to cross Main Street while carrying boxes, which restricted her visibility. Following the accident the woman was alert and able to describe what had happened, he said.

A pedestrian was struck by a car at a busy Hellertown intersection early Monday afternoon.

According to eyewitness reports, the unidentified woman was struck by a vehicle and knocked down as she attempted to cross Main Street at Thomas Avenue, near the 7-Eleven.

The accident is affecting traffic in the area.

The extent of the woman’s injuries–if any–are not currently known.

Pedestrian safety issues have been a heavily-discussed topic in Hellertown for many years, due to the volume of traffic on Main Street, which is also Route 412.

The speed limit on Main Street in the borough is 30 mph.
